Nzanzu Kataka Wins AIU International Rep Seat in a Heated 3-Way Race — Sele Media Africa Reports
Nairobi, Kenya — October 14, 2025
Africa International University (AIU), located in the heart of Nairobi, witnessed a vibrant and competitive student election today, drawing significant attention from the university community and beyond. The highlight of the event was the race for the position of International Students Representative, a seat reserved exclusively for international students and decided solely by their votes.
Three Candidates, One Winner
The election featured three highly spirited and passionate candidates from different African nations:
• Sulwanis Muhamud from South Sudan,
• Peter Magese from Tanzania, and
• Nzanzu Kataka Biché from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
After a closely followed campaign, Nzanzu Kataka emerged victorious, securing the trust and votes of his fellow international students. His win was celebrated by many, not only for the political outcome but also for the powerful personal story and vision he carries.
A Journey from Adversity to Leadership
Speaking to Sele Media Africa shortly after the election results were announced, Kataka gave deep insight into his background and the journey that shaped his aspirations.
“My name is Nzanzu Kataka Biché, and I'm a student at AIU, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology,” he began. “I'm from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country where war and conflict have deeply affected lives. Coming to Kenya wasn’t easy. I faced challenges from day one — from accommodation issues to cultural adjustments.”
Kataka recalled a difficult start to life in Kenya, including being asked to leave by his initial host, only to be rescued by a compassionate family who took him in for six months.
“That moment changed everything. I learned that kindness and support are powerful. I knew I had to give that same energy back to others. That’s when leadership became more than an idea — it became a duty,” he told Sele Media Africa.
Building Bridges Through Talent and Compassion
Beyond his academic interests, Kataka is also a talented singer and uses his musical abilities to connect with people across cultures on campus. His talent, coupled with a heart for service, made him a popular figure among students long before the elections began.

“I tried to be as helpful and social as possible. I fixed electronics, helped fellow students where I could, and just made myself available. This wasn’t strategy; this was who I’ve always been,” he explained.
The Vision Ahead
As the new International Students Representative, Kataka now shoulders the responsibility of addressing the needs, concerns, and aspirations of international students at AIU. Language barriers, documentation struggles, housing, and cultural integration remain core challenges many international students face — and Kataka has already begun outlining ways to tackle them.
“My goal is to build a more inclusive and supportive international student community,” he said. “I’m not here to be above anyone. I’m here to serve, to listen, and to work hand-in-hand with all students.”
Kataka expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his fellow students, mentors, friends, and the AIU community who supported him throughout his campaign.
“Thank you for believing in me. I promise not to take this trust lightly. Let’s work together and build something beautiful at AIU,” he concluded.
Sele Media Africa’s Fact-Checkers Confirm Election Integrity
Sele Media Africa Fact-Checking Unit has verified the credibility of the election results and the fairness of the electoral process. According to one of the AIU’s Student Electoral Council (SEC), Mr. Samaila Futu, the international representative race was conducted transparently, with proper voter registration, vote tallying, and candidate verification processes. Only international students were eligible to contest and vote in this category — a rule that was upheld with no reported irregularities.
As Kataka takes office, the student body eagerly anticipates a new chapter of inclusive leadership, unity, and empowerment.
