Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reassured residents of their safety and committed to ensuring a peaceful electoral environment.
State Commandant Isidore Chukwudi made the pledge during a press briefing in Awka, stating that operatives have been strategically deployed across the 21 local government areas.
“We are fully prepared to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure before, during, and after the election,” he said.
Security Strategy:
- Deployment of rapid response teams and intelligence units at polling stations, collation centers, and INEC offices.
- Collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
- Surveillance of national assets to prevent sabotage or election-related vandalism.
Why It Matters:
- The reassurance aims to boost voter turnout by calming public fears about electoral violence.
- It highlights the NSCDC’s role in complementing police and military efforts for credible and peaceful elections.
