ABUJA, Nigeria – November 15, 2025 —
The Nigerian Army has officially responded to circulating reports that a senior Brigade Commander was abducted by terrorists on Friday night, an incident that sparked concern across social media and among security analysts.
While full details remain unclear, initial online reports claimed that the senior officer was kidnapped along a volatile route in the northern region during a security operation. The rumour quickly gained traction, prompting a wave of speculation and concern over growing insecurity and the vulnerability of even high-ranking military personnel.
In a brief statement released on Saturday morning via X (formerly Twitter), the Nigerian Army addressed the allegations:
“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to false reports circulating online about the abduction of a serving Brigade Commander. We wish to state categorically that this information is inaccurate and misleading,” the statement read.
The Army further urged the public and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified information, emphasizing the need for professionalism in reporting security-related issues.
“Our troops remain committed and continue to carry out operations across various theatres. The safety of our personnel and the success of our missions remain our top priorities.”
The Army has not disclosed the specific location or circumstances surrounding the commander in question but assured the public that all officers are accounted for and safe.
This clarification comes amidst rising tensions in parts of northern Nigeria, where military operations against insurgents and bandits are ongoing.
Sele Media Africa will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more verified information becomes available.
