LAGOS — The Nigeria–South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) commemorated its 25th anniversary with a high‑profile dinner in Lagos, gathering corporate leaders, diplomats and state officials in a celebration of a quarter‑century of robust bilateral economic relations. [1] Anniversary Celebration & Highlights – The event, held under the theme “Building Together”, was described by NSACC’s Chair, Dr. Ije Jidenma, as more than a commemoration — a forward‑looking commitment to deepen trade, investment, and partnership between Nigeria and South Africa for years to come. [1] – In his remarks (delivered by a state official), Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Governor of Lagos State, applauded NSACC for serving as a “foundation for bilateral economic diplomacy,” emphasizing the chamber’s role in attracting South African investment and strengthening market linkages between both countries. [2]- The night also featured a prestigious awards ceremony honouring distinguished individuals and organisations that significantly contributed to Nigeria–South Africa business relations. Notable among the awardees was MTN Nigeria, which received recognition for “Exceptional Partnership.” [1] Importance of NSACC’s 25‑Year Legacy – Over the past 25 years, NSACC has acted as a crucial bridge — promoting trade, facilitating market entry for South African firms in Nigeria, and encouraging collaboration across sectors like telecommunications, retail, finance, and logistics. These efforts have created jobs, enhanced infrastructure, and deepened inter‑African economic integration. [2] – As Nigeria and South Africa remain two of Africa’s largest economies, the chamber’s work underscores the potential of intra‑African trade and investment to drive growth, innovation, and sustainable development across the continent. Looking Ahead: NSACC’s Next Phase
During the anniversary, Dr. Jidenma unveiled a new strategic five‑year roadmap aimed at: strengthening trust between business communities; expanding membership; deepening bilateral trade cooperation; encouraging joint ventures; and leveraging continental frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for broader integration. [2] The Chamber’s leadership called on stakeholders to build on the milestone — not just as a celebration, but as a renewed commitment to collaboration, growth, and continental unity in trade and investment.
