NEW JIGAWA VARSITY VC ASSUMES OFFICE, UNVEILS VISION FOR EXCELLENCE!

Professor Ahmad Muhammad Gumel has officially assumed office as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse (FUD), pledging to elevate the institution to new heights of academic distinction, cutting-edge research, and global competitiveness.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Muhammad Nuhu Sanusi Auditorium on the university campus, where Professor Gumel expressed deep gratitude to the university community for their support and renewed his commitment to excellence across all facets of the institution’s mission.

Professor Gumel’s appointment, approved by the university’s Governing Council, took effect on February 10, 2026. He emerged successful after a rigorous selection process involving multiple candidates.

In his address, the new Vice-Chancellor outlined a bold vision focused on strengthening academic programmes, driving research and innovation, enhancing digital transformation, and improving staff and student welfare. He also emphasised infrastructure expansion, financial sustainability, global partnerships, and stronger community engagement to position FUD as a centre of excellence nationally and internationally.

Among his strategic priorities is the establishment of specialised research centres, including a Centre for Climate Sustainability and Carbon Credit, a Centre for Advanced Biomedical Research and Training, and a Centre for Sustainable Agriculture Research initiatives aimed at aligning the university’s research agenda with national and global development goals.

Professor Gumel reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership, promising to work closely with students, staff, alumni, and stakeholders in implementing a comprehensive five-year strategic plan to be presented to the Governing Council.

State Government Commends Appointment
The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, congratulated Professor Gumel on his appointment and assured him of the state government’s continued support for the university’s growth and development.

Professor Gumel’s assumption of office marks a significant milestone for the institution as stakeholders anticipate a renewed era of academic transformation and institutional advancement.
