The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the disbursement of N116 billion for institutional fees and student upkeep allowances across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, revealed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, stating that the funds are part of efforts to ease financial burdens on students and promote equal access to education.
“This fund marks a significant step toward reducing dropout rates due to financial hardship. We are working with institutions to ensure prompt processing,” he said.
Key Details:
- The disbursement covers tuition, registration, and living allowances for eligible students.
- Beneficiaries include undergraduates from federal and state universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
- NELFUND is working with the CBN and academic institutions for seamless fund transfer and verification.
Why It Matters:
- Rising education costs have forced many Nigerian students out of school or into debt.
- This is the largest single education support package since NELFUND’s establishment.
- – The fund promotes inclusivity, helping low-income students remain enrolled.
What to Watch:
