Naira Ranked 9th Weakest Currency in Africa — Forbes Report
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
In its September 2025 update, Forbes Currency Index has ranked the Nigerian Naira as the ninth weakest currency in Africa, highlighting ongoing challenges facing Africa’s largest economy.
Despite recent efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria to stabilize the currency and ease inflationary pressures, the naira continues to struggle against major global currencies, particularly the US dollar.
The report cited structural economic issues, a heavy reliance on imports, limited foreign investment, and unstable forex policies as key factors contributing to the naira’s decline.
Top 3 weakest currencies on the continent include the Sierra Leonean Leone, Zimbabwean Dollar, and Malagasy Ariary.
Forbes noted that while inflation is slowing in Nigeria, “currency devaluation remains a persistent risk in the face of oil market volatility and dollar scarcity.”
