MACBAN Seeks FG’s Intervention Over Benue Insecurity!
Reported By Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
The Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the growing insecurity affecting its members in Ohimini Local Government Area.
Speaking at a press briefing in Makurdi, the state Chairman of MACBAN, Mohammed Risku, decried what he described as persistent and targeted attacks on herders, alleging loss of lives, cattle, and property.
“Our members are being killed, their cattle stolen, and families displaced. We need urgent government protection and justice,” he stated.
Key Points:
- MACBAN claims over 20 incidents have been recorded in Ohimini since January 2025.
- The group has asked for deployment of security forces and compensation for affected victims.
- It also urged the Benue State Government to convene a peace dialogue with local farming communities.
Why It Matters:
- The tensions reflect ongoing farmer-herder conflicts in the Middle Belt, a major driver of rural insecurity.
- Without intervention, such conflicts risk worsening displacement, food insecurity, and inter-ethnic distrust.
- The call by MACBAN puts pressure on authorities to balance security, justice, and reconciliation efforts.
