LP Crisis: Nenadi Usman Demands Arrest of Acting INEC Chairman!
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Former Minister of Finance and Labour Party (LP) stalwart, Nenadi Usman, has called for the immediate arrest of the acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mohammed Sani Ibrahim, amid ongoing crises within the LP.
Usman accused the INEC boss of biased conduct and interference in the party’s internal affairs, claiming that his actions are undermining the democratic process and fueling divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. She insisted that the electoral body must remain neutral and transparent in handling party matters.
Speaking during an interview with media outlets, Usman alleged that the acting INEC Chairman has been complicit in “manipulations” that threaten the integrity of the party’s leadership structure and called on security agencies to intervene and ensure justice prevails.
This demand follows a turbulent period in the Labour Party characterized by factional disputes over leadership recognition and party control, which has drawn national attention and concern from political stakeholders.
According to reports from major Nigerian news platforms such as Punch and The Guardian, the LP leadership tussle has intensified, with INEC’s role coming under sharp scrutiny as the commission oversees the party’s congresses and primaries.
The INEC has yet to respond officially to Nenadi Usman’s allegations or calls for the arrest of its acting chairman. However, political analysts warn that escalating tensions within the LP could affect its preparedness for the upcoming elections if not resolved amicably.
