Losing Loved Ones Inspired Me to Build Nigerian Hospital — US-based Doctor Mbakwe!

A United States-based Nigerian medical doctor, Dr. Mbakwe, has revealed that the painful experience of losing close family members due to inadequate healthcare facilities in Nigeria inspired him to establish a world-class hospital in the country.
Dr. Mbakwe, whose parents both served as directors in the Federal Ministry of Education before their retirement, said he never lost his connection to Nigeria despite living and practicing abroad.
“I’m a complete Nigerian. Both my parents worked in the Federal Ministry of Education and rose to the level of directors before they retired,” he said.
According to him, personal tragedy losing loved ones to preventable illnesses due to poor health infrastructure became the turning point in his life and spurred him to act.
“Each loss reminded me that quality healthcare should never be a luxury. It’s a basic human right,” he added.
Dr. Mbakwe disclosed that his new facility, equipped with modern medical technologies and run by trained Nigerian professionals, aims to reduce the need for medical tourism and provide affordable, accessible healthcare for citizens.
He called on other Nigerians in the diaspora to give back by investing in the country’s struggling health sector and helping bridge the gap between local and global standards.
