OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Osun State, Adedamola Adebayo, has commended the recent Supreme Court ruling in favour of the Osun State Government on the issue of Local Government funds. In a press statement on Thursday, Adebayo described the apex court’s decision as “a victory for constitutional democracy,” affirming that the illegal withholding of funds meant for elected local governments must never be tolerated in Nigeria. He urged PDP members and supporters across the state to celebrate the legal victory with decorum and not allow provocations or political tension to spiral into violence. “We must honour the judiciary’s courage with peaceful conduct,” he stated. The Supreme Court on Thursday, December 7, 2025, ruled that it is unconstitutional for state governors to withhold LG funds and ordered direct allocation to local councils — a move widely seen as a win for grassroots governance and fiscal autonomy.
Context:- The ruling follows a suit filed by the Federal Government against 36 state governors over alleged diversion and mismanagement of LG funds.- Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier raised alarm over irregular LG funding practices and welcomed the ruling.
