Lewis Hamilton Withdraws from Ferrari Pirelli Test to Be With Dog Roscoe in Coma
Mugello, Italy — September 27, 2025 Seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton has withdrawn from a scheduled Pirelli tyre test with Ferrari after his beloved bulldog, Roscoe, was rushed to the hospital and placed in a coma due to complications from pneumonia. Hamilton, who was expected to test Ferrari’s 2026 tyre compounds at Mugello Circuit, left the paddock abruptly after receiving news of Roscoe’s medical emergency. According to close sources and posts from Hamilton’s team, Roscoe began struggling to breathe late Tuesday and was immediately admitted to a veterinary intensive care unit. “While sedated, Roscoe’s heart stopped. He was resuscitated and remains in a coma under close observation,” a family spokesperson said. The British driver, who often shares photos and videos of Roscoe on social media, has described the dog as his “best friend” and “emotional anchor” throughout his racing career.(Source: BBC Sport, Sky Sports F1, Motorsport.com)
Ferrari issued a statement supporting Hamilton’s decision: “Lewis is with Roscoe and has our full support. Family comes first always.”Fans, teammates, and fellow drivers have taken to social media to express support and well wishes for Roscoe, who has become a popular figure in the F1 paddock over the years frequently spotted in the garage and even travelling to Grand Prix weekends. The test was part of Pirelli’s ongoing tyre development for the 2026 Formula One regulations, with Hamilton set to provide feedback in his transition year with Scuderia Ferrari. His absence will likely delay Ferrari’s specific input session, although Carlos Sainz and reserve driver Oliver Bearman are expected to continue testing duties.
