LASG, NDLEA Move to Curb Drug Peddling in Housing Estates!
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
The Lagos State Government (LASG), in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has launched intensified measures to curb drug peddling and illicit substance use within state‑owned housing estates. The partnership was highlighted in recent announcements and enforcement actions across various communities in Lagos.
Officials from the Ministry of Housing revealed that allocations to allottees who lease their while in residence or allow their apartments to be used for drug activities can be revoked. ([turn0search0]) The move will see LASG and NDLEA crack down on those found to be using the estates as hubs for drug distribution or consumption, clarifying that any resident caught facilitating such activities will face revocation of housing allocation and criminal prosecution.
The NDLEA has also stepped up enforcement operations in Lagos estates, arresting suspected drug dealers and users, demolishing makeshift shanties used for drug activities, and collaborating with municipal task forces on surveillance in high‑risk areas.
This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that housing estates under the Lagos State scheme remain safe, well‑regulated, and free of drug‑related criminality. Residents are being urged to report suspicious behaviour and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain community safety.
