Katsina: FERMA Unveils Road Maintenance Scheme, Targets 50km, Youth Empowerment
By Enock Damidami | Sele Media AfricaKatsina State — The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has flagged off a major road maintenance and youth empowerment programme in Katsina, targeting the rehabilitation of 50 kilometers of federal roads across key areas of the state.The initiative, launched under FERMA’s “Direct Labour Intervention Programme,” is designed not only to improve road infrastructure but also to empower local youths through job creation and vocational engagement.Speaking during the official launch, FERMA’s Zonal Coordinator, Engr. Jamilu Lawal, said the scheme would focus on patching potholes, clearing drainage, vegetation control, and restoring road shoulders — with direct involvement of over 100 youths trained and mobilized for the project.He described the effort as part of FERMA’s broader national drive to ensure safe and motorable roads while addressing youth unemployment through practical engagement. Local governments set to benefit include Katsina, Daura, and Funtua zones.Katsina State Commissioner for Works, who represented the state government, commended FERMA’s efforts and pledged collaboration to ensure the sustainability of the repairs and empowerment scheme.Residents and road users have also welcomed the project, hoping it reduces travel risks and enhances transport efficiency.
