The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction and gruesome killing of a 10-year-old boy in Mariga Local Government Area. The command also separately apprehended three suspected motorcycle thieves in Kontagora, the police said in a statement.
According to the police statement signed by the command’s public relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the case began on July 24, 2025, when the boy — identified as Yaseer Mustapha of Kwana-Mariga — was abducted while his guardian was working on a farm. The kidnappers initially demanded ₦3.5 million, but after negotiations the guardian paid ₦100,000, and later an additional ₦10,000, yet the child was not released.
Following a report to the police in September, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit traced and arrested Abdulmajid Dan-Azumi (32). His confession, police said, led to the arrest of his alleged accomplice, Abdulnafiu Usman (18). The suspects reportedly led officers to an uncompleted building where the decomposed body of the boy was recovered and later released to the family for burial. Both suspects have been charged in court, the statement added.
In a separate operation in Kontagora, a patrol team attached to ‘B’ Division intercepted and arrested two men along the Kontagora–Yauri Road after they failed to stop for officers. A spot search led to the recovery of dismantled parts of a Bajaj motorcycle concealed in a sack. The arrested suspects — Jibril Musa (24) and Ahmed Tiamiyu — confessed and implicated an accomplice, Elijah Ochoba (20), who was also arrested. All three remain in custody pending further investigation.
The Niger State Police Command said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be prosecuted. Sele Media Africa will continue to follow this story and provide updates as the court process progresses.
