Jefferson Wooden Moves Step Closer to World Sprint DoubleTokyo, Japan American sprinter Melissa Jefferson Wooden is edging ever closer to achieving a rare world sprint double after winning the women’s 100m title at the 2025 World Athletics Championships and advancing strongly in the 200m event. Just days after her dominant 10.61‑second performance in the 100m a championship record and the fourth‑fastest time ever in history Jefferson Wooden showed no signs of fatigue. She won her heat in the 200m in 22.24 seconds, securing a place in the semi‑finals and moving a stride closer to completing the double. Speaking after the heat, she remarked that everything “is lining up the way it was supposed to,” and that securing the 200m gold would be a big achievement given the work she’s put in all year. Though she may be the favourite, challenges remain. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, the two‑time defending champion in the 200m, posted a swift season’s best of 21.99 seconds in her semi‑final heat, sending a strong message to Jefferson Wooden ahead of the final showdown.
