Legendary Japanese actor Tatsuya Nakadai, renowned for his commanding performances in numerous Akira Kurosawa films — most notably as the lead in the 1985 epic Ran — has died at the age of 92.
His passing was announced on Tuesday by the Mumeijuku acting school, which he founded and led for decades. Nakadai reportedly died peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by family.
“Japan has lost a giant of the arts. His contribution to film and theatre is eternal,” the school’s statement read.
