Institute Urges Persons Living with HIV to Adhere to Treatment!

Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) has renewed its call for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) to strictly adhere to antiretroviral therapy (ART), stressing that consistent treatment remains the most effective way to stay healthy and curb the spread of AIDS.

Key Highlights:

  • The appeal was made during a health outreach held in Abuja as part of the institute’s community awareness programme.
  • Experts warned that skipping medication could lead to drug resistance and deteriorating health.
  • IHVN also encouraged regular testing and counselling to ensure early detection and viral suppression.

Why It Matters:

  • Nigeria still ranks among the top three countries with the highest HIV burden globally.
  • ART adherence significantly reduces HIV transmission and improves life expectancy for PLHIV.
