Insecurity: Israel to Support Nigeria Through Intelligence Sharing, Not Unilateral Action — Envoy
Reported by Sele Media Africa| Ihuoma Amarachi
ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has clarified that Israel’s plan to support Nigeria in tackling insecurity will focus on intelligence sharing and strategic cooperation with the Nigerian government, rather than unilateral military action. This partnership is intended to complement Nigeria’s efforts to curb terrorism, insurgency, and violent extremism affecting communities nationwide. [1]
In an interview with ARISE News, Ambassador Freeman explained that the initiative — outlined by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — aims to strengthen security collaboration with Nigeria while fully respecting the country’s sovereignty and national leadership. Freeman stressed that the approach is not about external intervention but working with Nigeria, guided by the federal government on how and where the partnership can best enhance efforts to curb insecurity. [1]The envoy also noted that Israel’s support is not limited to protection of any one group but is intended to benefit all Nigerians affected by violence, including those in Christian, Muslim, and other communities impacted by terror attacks and banditry. He underscored that intelligence sharing — rather than unilateral operations — will be the main pillar of cooperation, with any joint efforts occurring under Nigerian direction and control. [1]
