
INEC Releases 2027 General Election Timetable, Warns Against Premature Campaigning
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, outlining key dates for presidential, legislative, and gubernatorial polls. While specific dates are yet to be disclosed, the commission has initiated preparations, including the commencement of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began on August 18, 2025. INEC has also cautioned political parties and candidates against early campaigning, emphasizing that such actions violate the Electoral Act. According to Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, public campaigning by political parties is prohibited until 150 days before polling day.
