Indian Businessman, Three Others Nabbed Over ₦3.9bn Tramadol in Lagos
LAGOS, Nigeria — In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an Indian national and three Nigerian accomplices in connection with the importation of tramadol tablets valued at approximately ₦3.9 billion.
The NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment containing 2,248,000 pills of Tramadol 200mg/225mg at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. The consignment, disguised as multivitamins in 114 cartons, arrived from Delhi, India, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight on September 8, 2025. After placing the shipment under surveillance, NDLEA officers apprehended a clearing agent and two drivers attempting to move the consignment out of the airport on September 11. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the Indian businessman, identified as Gupta Ravi Kumar, when he came to take delivery of the consignment. [1]The three Nigerian suspects have been identified as Ogunlana Noah Olanrewaju, Olushola Idrees Kayode, and Bakare Korede Muheeb. The NDLEA’s swift action prevented the distribution of these illicit drugs, which have a high potential for abuse and are often linked to various health and social issues.
This seizure underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian authorities in combating drug trafficking and the importance of international collaboration in addressing the illicit drug trade.
