“I’m Not Anyone’s Project – I’ll Defeat You at the Ballot!” – Babu Owino Fires at Sakaja!
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has launched a scathing political attack on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, declaring that he is not a puppet of any political heavy weight and that his popularity is rooted in genuine grassroots support.
In a bold statement shared across his official social media handles, Babu Owino stated: I
“Sakaja, let me make this clear — I’m not anyone’s project, I’m the people’s choice. I don’t need Ruto or Raila to win Nairobi. You can bring all your political godfathers, but I’ll still defeat you at the ballot. Nairobi needs real leadership and results, not empty PR and photoshopped projects.”
The fiery remark comes amid growing speculation about Babu Owino’s plans to contest for the Nairobi governorship in 2027. His direct reference to both President William Ruto and Raila Odinga—leaders of Kenya’s dominant political coalitions—signals his intent to chart an independent political path, fueled by youthful backing and urban appeal.
The statement has already gone viral online, with many Kenyans weighing in on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook. Some users hailed Owino’s confidence and track record in Parliament, while others criticized the tone of his message as unnecessarily combative.
Governor Sakaja has not yet issued an official response, though sources close to City Hall say the administration is “focused on delivering for Nairobians, not political noise.”
This is not the first time Babu Owino has publicly criticized Sakaja. In April 2025, he accused the governor of prioritizing aesthetics over service delivery, referencing what he called “photoshop leadership”—a jab at allegedly staged project unveilings (source: The Star Kenya).
Political analysts believe that Nairobi will be one of the hottest battlegrounds in the next general election, and Babu’s open challenge to Sakaja is only the beginning.
