Hundreds Feared Dead in Tanzania Post-Election Violence, Says Opposition!

DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA – October 31,2025 —
Tanzania is reeling from reports of mass casualties following violent clashes that erupted after the country’s recent general elections. According to the nation’s main opposition party, hundreds of civilians have been killed in just three days of protest, raising alarms across the region and drawing global concern.
The unrest began shortly after the official results were announced, sparking accusations of vote manipulation, suppression, and use of force against peaceful demonstrators. Protesters took to the streets in several major cities, including Dodoma, Arusha, and Dar es Salaam, demanding transparency and justice.
As of Friday, the country remained under a near-total internet blackout, with limited communication both internally and with the outside world. This has made it difficult for journalists, observers, and humanitarian agencies to verify the full extent of the violence.
“We have credible reports and eyewitness accounts that over 200 lives may have been lost,” a senior opposition leader told Sele Media Africa.“The government must be held accountable for this brutality.”
The Tanzanian government, however, has strongly denied the allegations, stating that security forces acted with restraint and that there has been “no use of excessive force.” Authorities claim the protests were illegal and instigated by political actors attempting to destabilize the nation.
International human rights organizations have called for an immediate independent investigation, while the African Union and United Nations have urged all parties to exercise restraint and return to dialogue.
This is the most serious wave of political violence in Tanzania in recent years and threatens to undo democratic progress in one of East Africa’s most stable nations.
Sele Media Africa will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.
