Hamas Submits Prisoner List in Gaza Ceasefire Talks, Signals Optimism
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Hamas has confirmed that it has handed over a list of Palestinian prisoners to Israeli negotiators as part of ongoing ceasefire talks in Egypt, aiming to facilitate a swap for Israeli hostages. The militant group described the move as part of a growing atmosphere of “optimism” surrounding the negotiations. [1]
A senior Hamas official, Taher Al-Nounou, stated that both parties have now exchanged lists of captives and prisoners who may be released should a deal materialize. He emphasized that communication and coordination are progressing, and that mechanisms for implementation are being finalized.
According to reports, the submitted prisoner list includes names of Palestinians serving various sentences, possibly including those convicted of serious offenses. Hamas is demanding their release in return for the safe return of Israeli hostages currently held in Gaza.
The exchange of lists is being viewed by analysts as a “confidence‑building step” that could help bridge gaps in trust. However, core issues remain unresolved — including the criteria for release, sequencing of implementation, guarantee of non‑resumption of hostilities, and withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Gaza. Israeli and U.S. mediation teams have joined the talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, alongside Qatar and Egypt, attempting to accelerate the process toward a stable truce and broader peace agreement.
