Gunmen Ambush Security Patrol in Northwest Nigeria, Kill 8
Gunmen ambushed a security patrol in Zamfara state’s Tsafe area along the Gusau–Funtua road, killing eight people — five police officers and three members of a paramilitary group — Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed. [1]
The assailants lay in wait in the bush and opened fire as the patrol convoy passed, according to resident accounts. [1]
No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack. [1]
Zamfara, like much of northwest Nigeria, has experienced frequent violence from armed “bandit” groups who carry out kidnappings, raids, and highway ambushes. [2]
Governor Lawal expressed grief over the loss and called for renewed efforts to resolve the region’s insecurity.
