A coalition of local government chairmen and civic‑groups in Ondo State has filed formal petitions with the EFCC and ICPC, accusing the state government of diverting billions of naira in local government allocations meant for grassroots development.

According to the complaints, numerous local councils received significantly less than their due share of monthly allocations from the Federation Account, and the withheld monies were allegedly redirected into state‑level ministries and special funds. One anonymous chairman claimed his council was left with just ₦4 million from an expected ₦600 million monthly allocation. [1]

The petitions urge the anti‑graft agencies to launch investigations into the funding flows, accounts and signatories involved, citing potential violations of the Supreme Court ruling on local government financial autonomy. Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of ALGON, led by Chairman Donald Fasua, has rejected the diversion allegations, insisting that local governments retain full financial control of their allocations and pointing to ongoing development projects as evidence. “It is not true. The governor is not diverting our funds,” Fasua said. [1]

The state Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, echoed the dismissals, accusing dissenting council chiefs of playing politics rather than acknowledging a collectively agreed fund‑sharing mechanism. [3]
