Flood Ravages Anambra Communities, Submerges Houses and Roads
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Several neighborhoods in Anambra State, particularly in Ogidi, Idemili North, have been hit hard by flooding following hours of intense rainfall, leaving homes, roads, and infrastructure submerged and residents displaced.
According to local reports, the flood has inundated residential compounds and streets, particularly in areas already known to be flood-prone. Many road users were trapped as key access routes—especially around the Ogidi/Umunnachi axis—went underwater, hampering movement and frustrating commuters. [1]
In a related blow to communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area, the rising level of the Niger River compounded the damage, swallowing homes, farmlands, and farm camps in multiple riverine communities. [2]
In Ogidi, the palace of the Igwe (traditional ruler) disclosed that flooding has plagued the area for over a decade. The floodwaters divert into homes and roads whenever heavy rains occur, according to the palace spokesman.
