Fire Razes Filling Station in Anambra
Amawbia, Anambra State – A significant fire outbreak occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Okeb Filling Station located along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway by the Amawbia Flyover. The incident, which caused substantial damage to the facility, was swiftly contained by the prompt response of the Anambra State Fire Service.
According to a statement from the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, led by Fire Chief Chukwudi Chiketa, two firefighting crews and trucks were dispatched immediately upon receiving the distress call. Their coordinated efforts successfully extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest that a petrol tanker was discharging fuel at the station when a spark ignited the blaze. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started suddenly, leading to panic among residents and passersby. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
This incident underscores the critical need for stringent safety protocols during fuel handling and distribution. The Anambra State Fire Service has reiterated its call for filling station operators to adhere strictly to safety guidelines to prevent such occurrences in the future.
