FG Moves to End Joblessness, Launches National Job Centres Nationwide!

Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa

In a major effort to combat rising unemployment, the Federal Government has launched the National Job Centre Project, establishing a network of employability hubs across Nigeria to connect job seekers with opportunities and equip them with relevant skills.

What We Know:

  • The initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, aims to provide career counselling, job matching, and training for young Nigerians.
  • Centres will be sited in all 36 states and the FCT, with digital platforms also in development.
  • The project is aligned with Nigeria’s commitment to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Official Statement:

“This is more than a job portal — it’s a national human capital development effort,” said Minister of Labour Simon Lalong.

Why It Matters:

  • Youth unemployment in Nigeria remains over 40%, according to NBS data.
  • The job centres will offer real-time labour market data and help reduce the skills–opportunity mismatch.
