Reported By Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
The Federal Government has strongly condemned what it described as deliberate acts of sabotage affecting the ongoing reconstruction of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway.
Speaking during an inspection tour on Saturday, Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, said the government had received reports of theft, obstruction, and vandalism targeting project materials and equipment.
“We will not tolerate sabotage. Communities must take ownership of this project and protect it,” Goronyo said.
Key Points:
- The Minister cited incidents of construction barricades being removed and road signage stolen.
- Some local youths have reportedly demanded “settlements” from contractors, disrupting work progress.
- Security agencies have been directed to increase patrols and investigate those behind the sabotage.
Why It Matters:
- The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway is a critical transport corridor linking major Northern states.
- Delays or damage to the project could affect economic activity, logistics, and road safety.
- Community cooperation is vital to successful project delivery and long-term infrastructure sustainability.
