FCT Council Polls: Wike Backs AMAC Chairman in Upcoming Elections!
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
Ahead of the February 2026 council elections, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has publicly declared support for Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the current Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, endorsing him for re-election.
During the flag-off ceremony for the Water Supply Project (Lot 2) in Karu, Wike praised Maikalangu’s ability to deliver infrastructural projects through his close ties to relevant government bodies. He said:
“Your Chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do… This is the only man I know. If he wins as Chairman of AMAC, we will give you whatever you want.” [1]
Wike urged residents to back leaders with the capacity to liaise effectively with government — those who can translate promises into results.
Maikalangu, who defected to the APC in 2024, has positioned himself as a bridge between AMAC constituents and the FCT administration. [1]
The minister’s support comes amid mounting speculation about party alignments in Abuja, with observers viewing his endorsement as a significant boost for Maikalangu’s electoral chances.
