FBI Releases Video of Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect as Manhunt Intensifies
U.S. authorities have released surveillance footage of the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University (UVU) on September 10. The video shows the suspect fleeing the scene, and a nationwide manhunt is underway.
The footage, made public by the FBI, captures the suspect—dressed in a black long-sleeve shirt with an American flag and eagle emblem, jeans, Converse shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and a backpack—running across a rooftop, jumping off the edge, and disappearing into a wooded area near the UVU campus. Investigators believe the shooter fired a single, fatal shot from the rooftop, striking Kirk in the neck while he addressed an audience of approximately 3,000 people. The suspect then fled the scene, leaving behind a high-powered bolt-action rifle and ammunition, which were later recovered by law enforcement. [1]
Trace evidence collected from the rooftop includes shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. Despite receiving over 7,000 tips, the FBI has not yet identified the suspect and is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. [2]
The shooting has been widely condemned across the political spectrum. Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the incident as a “political assassination,” while former President Donald Trump expressed profound grief and anger, promising that justice would be served. Trump also announced that Kirk would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. [3]
Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent figure in conservative politics. He is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children. His death has intensified concerns over political violence in the United States, prompting increased security measures for public figures and events.
