Fake Recruitment Websites in Circulation, NIS Warns Nigerians!
Reported by Mustapha Labake Omowumi | Sele Media Africa Journalist
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a fresh warning to Nigerians following the circulation of fake recruitment websites and fraudulent job offers falsely claiming to be official hiring platforms of the agency.
In a statement released by the service, NIS disclosed that several unauthorised websites and online messages are misleading job seekers into believing that recruitment exercises are currently ongoing. The agency clarified that such claims are false, deceptive, and potentially harmful.
The public has been strongly advised not to interact with, pay money to, or submit personal information on any platform claiming to conduct recruitment on behalf of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
NIS spokespersons reiterated that all legitimate recruitment information, including announcements, application procedures, and official portals, are communicated strictly through recognised government channels. Job seekers were urged to rely solely on the verified Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recruitment portal for authentic information.
The advisory comes amid rising concerns that fraudsters are exploiting Nigeria’s high unemployment rate by creating phony recruitment portals, fake shortlists, and scam messages designed to steal money and personal data from unsuspecting applicants.
Authorities further stressed that no recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Immigration Service is currently ongoing outside official announcements, warning that any message, website, or correspondence not originating from the NIS or CDCFIB should be treated as fraudulent.
Members of the public have been encouraged to verify employment-related information through the official social media platforms of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the CDCFIB portal, and to report suspicious recruitment adverts or links to relevant security agencies to curb the spread of online employment scams.
