Fake Army Colonel Arrested in Ondo Over ₦1.3 Million Job Scam
AKURE, Nigeria — The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a man, identified as Abdullahi Saliu, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Army Colonel and defrauding unsuspecting victims in a fraudulent employment scheme totaling ₦1.377 million.
According to police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Saliu posed as a senior military officer and deceived two women, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, by promising to secure employment for their sons in the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services. Through this deceit, he collected ₦1,377,000, which he subsequently converted for personal use. [1]
Investigations revealed that Saliu’s fraudulent activities extended beyond Ondo State, with victims traced to Edo, Delta, and Kogi States. He had been on the police watchlist as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating senior officers across various security agencies, including the Army, Navy, Immigration, and Customs. [2]The suspect has been arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 in Akure for prosecution. The Ondo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents and ensuring that fraudsters are brought to justice. [2]
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by impersonation and employment scams in Nigeria. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
