Lagos — The UIM‑sanctioned E1 World Championship, a premier all‑electric powerboat racing series, officially commenced in Lagos today, marking the city as the first on the African continent to host the event. [1]

Teams tested their RaceBird hydrofoil electric boats on Thursday ahead of qualifying sessions and the main race scheduled for Sunday. [1]

The championship is designed to champion sustainability and innovation in marine sports. Participating vessels glide above the water surface, reducing drag, noise and emissions. [1]

Nine international teams are competing, including Team Drogba, co‑owned by Didier Drogba, who have been active in promoting the event in partnership with stakeholders. [1]
