Reported by Suzan Daniel, Sele Media Africa
Jos, Plateau State – Dr. Samuel Yohanna Davou, popularly known as Samdung Africa, has formally declared his intention to run for the seat of Member, House of Representatives, representing Jos South and Jos East Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Although he has not yet disclosed the political party under which he will contest, a source close to Dr. Davou confirmed to Sele Media Africa that he is resolute about joining the race.
Born on February 4, 1982, in Takum Gyel Bukuru, Plateau State, Davou is widely recognized as a scholar, cultural advocate, and community mobilizer. He holds a PhD in Music Theory and Composition from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, making him the first indigenous Plateau citizen with this qualification.
A lecturer at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, and visiting lecturer at the University of Jos, Dr. Davou has built a reputation as a prolific composer, author, and cultural enthusiast. He has written two books, composed over two hundred choral works, and participated in various artistic and academic projects both locally and internationally.
Raised by Christian evangelist parents—the late Reverend Yohanna Davou and Ngo Zabiya Watu Yohanna—he adopted the name Samdung Africa to reflect his deep commitment to African cultural identity. His passion for cultural advocacy and peacebuilding has been shaped by growing up during seasons of ethnic and religious conflict in Plateau State.
Beyond academia, Dr. Davou is preparing to attempt a Guinness World Record in Music Conducting, slated for Jos in January 2026.
As the 2027 elections approach, his declaration adds to the growing list of aspirants seeking to represent the Jos South/Jos East constituency in the National Assembly.
Sele Media Africa will continue to monitor developments around Dr. Davou’s political journey and provide updates as more details—including his chosen political platform—become available.
