Deji Adeyanju: “I’ll Vote for Tinubu if ADC Coalition Fields Peter Obi in 2027”

Prominent human rights activist and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has declared that he would support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election—but only if opposition movements under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) adopt Peter Obi as their candidate.

Adeyanju made the statement in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, sparking fresh waves of debate across Nigeria’s political spectrum.

“If ADC opposition coalition fields Peter Obi as its 2027 candidate, I’ll vote for Bola Tinubu,” Adeyanju tweeted.

While he did not elaborate on the reasoning behind his stance, Adeyanju has in the past criticized both major political blocs—often warning against what he calls “populist deception” and “elite manipulation.” His latest position suggests continued skepticism about Obi’s political style or performance. This comment comes amid talks of an emerging opposition coalition led by the ADC, which is reportedly seeking to merge smaller parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and the 2023 presidential candidate under the Labour Party, has remained popular among a large youth demographic and reform-minded Nigerians. However, internal fractures and questions about alignment within opposition circles have left the 2027 race wide open.

As reactions continue to trail Adeyanju’s declaration, analysts believe it reflects the complex and shifting alliances that will shape Nigeria’s next general elections.

Sele Media Africa will continue to track developments around opposition movements, emerging alliances, and key voices ahead of 2027.
