Daniel Bwala Retracts ‘No Man’s Land’ Statement, Affirms Lagos as Undisputed Yoruba Homeland

Presidential media aide, Daniel Bwala, has officially withdrawn and clarified his earlier remarks suggesting that Lagos is a “no man’s land,” stating firmly that the city is, by all accounts, a Yoruba homeland.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Bwala noted that his comments during a recent morning interview had been misunderstood and misinterpreted by the public. He wrote:

“Culturally, historically, and constitutionally, Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people, and that has never been in contention. The unique identity of Lagos as a Yoruba homeland is settled and beyond dispute.”

Bwala emphasized the significant role Lagos plays, describing it not just as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, but also as a city of continental and global importance, much like New York, Paris, or London. He reiterated that while Lagos offers opportunities to all Nigerians regardless of origin, it remains firmly grounded in Yoruba culture and heritage.
