Customs Boosts Anti‑Smuggling Drive, Elevates 74 Officers in Oyo/Osun Command
Ibadan, Oyo State — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has promoted 74 officers in its Oyo/Osun Area Command as part of a broader push to strengthen enforcement against smuggling, enhance trade monitoring, and boost revenue generation. The promotion ceremony took place at the Customs headquarters in Ibadan, where officers from various ranks were decorated. Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, Area Controller for Oyo/Osun, emphasized that these promotions are not just formal, but strategic meant to ready the Command for evolving operational challenges and to improve performance. Oyo/Osun is a critical region for Nigeria Customs due to its position near major trade routes and interstate passages, meaning smuggling is a recurring issue there. With more officers elevated, the Customs Command expects to improve enforcement, monitoring, and compliance especially in trading zones where smuggling and revenue leakages have been concerns. In his address, Comptroller Aliyu urged the promoted officers to live up to their new ranks with enhanced discipline, professionalism, and commitment in all duties. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola, noted that promotions are a signal of merit‑based recognition and part of NCS’s efforts to meet national expectations for non‑oil revenue and border security.
