Court Rejects Nnamdi Kanu’s No-Case Submission, Orders Him to Enter Defence
Reported by David Joshua | Selemedia Africa
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the no-case submission filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice Binta Nyako, in her ruling on Friday, held that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Kanu, which requires him to open his defence.
The IPOB leader, who is facing terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government, had asked the court to dismiss the charges, arguing that there was no credible evidence linking him to the allegations.
However, the court ruled that the evidence presented by the prosecution was sufficient to warrant Kanu entering his defence.
Justice Nyako stated: “The court finds that the prosecution has made out a case that requires the defendant to provide explanations. The no-case submission is hereby overruled.”
Kanu is expected to open his defence at the next adjourned date.
The decision marks a major turn in the long-running legal battle that has drawn national and international attention.
