Court Declines Motion to Halt ADC Leadership – Kachikwu’s Bid Rebuffed!
Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to grant an interim order in favor of Dumebi Kachikwu, who sought to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the ADC leadership under Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola. Kachikwu’s motion sought to bar them from being recognized as the party’s leaders pending a substantive hearing.
What the Court Did
- Justice Emeka Nwite dismissed Kachikwu’s application for three interim orders against INEC and the ADC leadership. [1]
- Instead of granting immediate relief, the court ordered that the motion be served properly on all parties involved, and directed that defendants show cause why it should not be granted. [2]
- The matter has been adjourned to September 15, 2025 for further hearing. [2]
Context & Stakes
- Kachikwu’s motion challenges the legitimacy of the Mark/Aregbesola leadership, especially against INEC’s recognition of them. [3]
- ADC spokesmen have denied that any injunction was granted, clarifying that the court refused the ex parte application and ordered due process instead. [4]
- This ruling postpones Kachikwu’s bid to intervene in the internal dispute over party leadership until formal arguments are heard.
