Court Adjourns Trial of Ex-Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to February 16
Reported by Sele Media Africa| Ihuoma Amarachi
The trial of former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, facing charges of alleged ₦5.78 billion fraud, has been adjourned to February 16, 2026, by a Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin. The adjournment followed unresolved issues concerning key documents presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reports, the EFCC had difficulty tendering specific documents critical to establishing its case against the former governor, leading to a delay in proceedings. The EFCC is prosecuting Ahmed over alleged diversion of public funds during his tenure between 2011 and 2019. Ahmed, who was arraigned in December 2023, pleaded not guilty to all counts and is currently out on bail. The court granted the EFCC more time to perfect its submission of evidence, while defense counsel reiterated their readiness to proceed. The case will resume on February 16, 2026, for continuation of trial.
