Sele Media Africa | Reported by Suzan Daniel
Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) has convened its first official board meeting in preparation for the upcoming regional elections scheduled for November 30, 2025, just weeks after the country’s presidential election.
During the meeting, Dr. Enow Abrams Egbe, Chairman of the Electoral Board, highlighted the historic nature of the upcoming poll. He noted that this would be the first time ELECAM is organizing a regional election immediately following a presidential vote, emphasizing the need for thorough planning and execution.
Originally, Cameroon was expected to hold four major elections in 2025, but the municipal and legislative elections have been postponed to 2026 by the government. This decision now shifts the national electoral focus to the presidential and regional elections.
Dr. Enow underlined the strategic importance of the regional polls, describing them as more than just routine elections. According to him, they are “a channel to breathe fresh life into grassroots governance”, strengthening the framework for local development and community representation.
With political tensions and civic expectations running high, ELECAM’s preparations mark a critical step toward ensuring transparency, participation, and credibility in Cameroon’s democratic process.
