Cameroon in Crisis: Ministers Pen Praises for Biya Amid National Turmoil
Reported by Suzan Daniel | Sele Media Africa
Cameroon is grappling with profound instability, with active conflicts in at least five of its ten regions. The Anglophone Crisis in the Northwest and Southwest continues unabated, while the Far North faces persistent threats from Boko Haram insurgents. Additionally, unrest in the East and Adamawa regions exacerbates the nation’s challenges. Amid these crises, citizens endure deteriorating infrastructure, including impassable roads, inconsistent electricity, and limited access to clean water.
Highlighting the disconnect between the government and its populace, a recently resigned minister revealed that he had met President Paul Biya only once in two decades of service. This revelation underscores concerns about the administration’s detachment from the nation’s pressing issues.
Despite these challenges, some government officials are focusing on literary endeavors that laud President Biya. On September 10, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé, Minister of Higher Education Jacques Fame Ndongo was scheduled to launch a book authored by Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, titled “Paul Biya ou la cohérence d’un grand Homme d’État”. This publication adds to a growing list of works by ministers, including Manouda Malachie (Public Health) and Mounouna Foutsou (Youth and Civic Affairs), who have penned tributes to the long-serving president. Critics argue that these literary pursuits are out of touch with the country’s dire realities. As Cameroon faces multifaceted crises, the focus on glorifying leadership through books raises questions about the government’s priorities and responsiveness to its citizens’ needs.
