Buy Made-in-Nigeria Products to Build Our Economy, Dangote Urges
Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
Africa’s richest man and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has called on Nigerians to prioritise the purchase of locally made products in order to boost the nation’s economy, generate employment, and reduce dependence on imports.
What We Know:
- Dangote made the appeal during a keynote speech at the “Nigeria Industrial Growth Summit” held in Lagos on October 17, 2025.
- He emphasised that patronising Nigerian-made goods strengthens the naira, promotes industrialisation, and enhances self-sufficiency.
- Citing the success of Dangote Cement and the newly commissioned Dangote Refinery, he said local industries have the capacity to meet national demand.
Quote:
“We cannot grow our economy if we abandon our own products. Every time we choose foreign goods, we export jobs and import poverty.” — Aliko Dangote
Why It Matters:
- Nigeria faces ongoing challenges including inflation, high import bills, and rising unemployment.
- Supporting local manufacturing reduces the pressure on foreign exchange reserves and encourages entrepreneurial growth.
- Economic experts agree that domestic consumption is key to sustaining national industrial output.
