BREAKING: Senator Natasha’s Resumption Unlikely This Week as Senate Cites Pending Court Case
Reported by Suzan Daniel for Sele Media Africa
The anticipated return of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Nigerian Senate this week is now uncertain, following the Senate’s firm position that her suspension cannot be lifted until ongoing legal proceedings are concluded.
Sources within the National Assembly confirmed that while there had been expectations of her resumption following public and political pressure, the Senate leadership has reiterated its stance that the issue is now sub judice — meaning it is before the courts and therefore cannot be discussed or acted upon in the chambers.
Senator Natasha was suspended earlier this year over alleged misconduct and defamation of the Senate leadership, a move that sparked nationwide criticism and legal challenges. She has since approached the courts to challenge the suspension, arguing that it violates her constitutional right to represent her constituents.
Despite growing calls from her supporters and civic groups for her reinstatement, the Senate insists that due process must be followed.
As it stands, Senator Natasha’s return to plenary remains on hold, pending the outcome of the legal battle — a situation that continues to raise questions about legislative transparency, accountability, and the balance between political authority and legal redress.
