BREAKING: Pastor Kumuyi Eases Deeper Life’s Marriage Rules — “Why Not? If Not, Follow Them Home”

In a significant shift, Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has announced major adjustments to the church’s long-standing marriage guidelines, emphasizing that they are administrative practices and not divine commands.
Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Pastor Kumuyi addressed concerns about the church’s previous restrictions on courtship practices. He clarified that the six-month courtship policy and the ban on visiting prospective spouses were not rooted in the Bible but were intended to help individuals avoid sin. [1]
“We just felt you need some time to know one another. And then we said one month will be too short, two months too short. So, why not six months? But it is not from the Bible,” he stated.
Addressing the issue of visiting during courtship, Pastor Kumuyi acknowledged the importance of understanding a prospective partner’s environment and family dynamics. He emphasized that such visits should be conducted responsibly, ideally with an elder accompanying the couple. [1]
“You’re marrying the man, but he has a lot of these people with him. His own mother, his own father, his own relatives, and all the people. And when you get to their houses, you’ll be able to see how they relate to you, respond to you, react to you. You’ll see how his environment is,” Pastor Kumuyi explained.
He concluded by assuring members that he trusts their maturity, expressing confidence that they would not misuse the new allowance by visiting at inappropriate times or engaging in improper behavior.
This development marks a significant change in Deeper Life’s approach to courtship, reflecting a move towards more flexible and individualized guidance for members.
