Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has vowed to deliver justice to victims of the prolonged violence that has plagued the state for over two decades.
The governor made the promise during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors at the Government House in Jos, where he assured that the recommendations of the Fact-Finding Committee on Incessant Attacks, Killings, and Destruction in Plateau would be fully implemented.
The 10-member panel, inaugurated in May 2025, was tasked with identifying the root causes of the violence and quantifying the human and material losses. On Wednesday, the committee submitted its final report, revealing harrowing details of sustained carnage across the state.
According to the findings, 420 communities in 13 local government areas have been attacked between 2001 and 2025, with a staggering 11,749 people confirmed dead.
Governor Mutfwang described the report as “a painful but necessary step towards healing,” adding that his administration is committed to seeking justice, rehabilitating affected communities, and ensuring lasting peace.
“We cannot ignore the truth. We owe it to the victims, their families, and the future of Plateau State to act decisively,” Mutfwang stated.
He further noted that justice and accountability would be pursued without bias, while efforts would also focus on resettlement, reconciliation, and security reforms.
