In a harrowing incident that has sparked widespread condemnation, a female food vendor, identified as Ammaye, was lynched and set ablaze by a mob in Kasuwan-Garba, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

According to reports, the incident began when Ammaye, a Muslim and well-known food seller in the area, engaged in a conversation with a young man, said to be her nephew. The young man jokingly told her he wanted to marry her to “fulfil the Sunnah.” In response, she allegedly made remarks considered blasphemous, leading to outrage among locals.

The matter was initially taken to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba, where Ammaye was interrogated. She reportedly repeated her earlier statements, which further incited anger. Despite being handed over to security operatives for investigation, the mob overwhelmed the authorities and lynched her before additional security teams could arrive. [1][2]

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators. [1]
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for the Nigerian government and law enforcement agencies to address the recurring issue of mob justice and ensure that the rule of law prevails.
