The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), alongside his son, Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, before the Federal High Court, Abuja, over alleged terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.
The charges, filed as a five-count indictment, allege that Malami, during his tenure as Attorney-General of the Federation, knowingly abetted terrorism financing by allegedly refusing to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were forwarded to his office. Malami and his son are also jointly accused of unlawfully possessing a Sturm Magnum firearm and ammunition without valid licences.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. Prosecutors subsequently requested that the court remand the defendants in DSS custody pending the commencement of trial.
Counsel to the defendants applied for bail, arguing that Malami and his son had been in detention for over two weeks. However, the trial judge declined the oral application and directed the defence to file a formal bail motion. The court adjourned the case to February 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
The arraignment comes amid ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding Malami, who is facing multiple allegations and court actions related to financial and property matters.
